Tour the Plant ...

Welcome to Hatteras Hammocks® and the world of handcrafted hammock making. Our plant is located in the coastal region of North Carolina. Our facility with over 300,000 square feet produces and distributes many of our hammocks and other fine relaxation products.
Rope Shop:

The hammock making process begins when miles of cotton, polyester or DuraCord® yarns are formed into layers to create the rope. Each layer in our 3-ply rope is balanced and twisted for superior strength
Weaving:

Rope hammocks are crafted by hand as there is no machine that can duplicate this process. Our hammocks are constructed by craftsmen who artfully weave a shuttle of rope to create the continuous rope bed of a hammock. This "knotless" weave is what makes for ultra-comfort in this body hugging hammock.
Quilting:

The quilted hammock is the fastest growing product line, as they enable the user to "dress" his or her backyard in a fabric selection that may coordinate with other outdoor furnishings. The quilter crates the exact size hammock bed from layers of weather resistant fabric and polyester batting.
Branding:

With a hot iron and a great deal of pride, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse silhouette is permanently branded on the solid oak spreader bars of each authentic Hatteras Hammock®. This mark assures our customers of the strength, durability, and quality workmanship symbolized by the Hatteras tradition.
Clew Knot:

Each hammock, whether rope or fabric, is finished off with the decorative "clew" knot and hanging hardware. The clew knot at the ring is hand macramed in an attractive and long-lasting design. The hammock ring is constructed using outdoor durable, zinc plated one-piece hanging ring and chain.
Assembly:

Assembled completely by hand a hammock is created when all parts of the hammock come together in the assembly area. The bowline knot a knot know for its strength and ability to tighten with use, is placed at each tie-on point to complete the hammock. Each and every hammock is then inspected to make sure it meets the high standards required to be a Hatteras Hammock®.
Metal Shop:

Our signature Right Connection®, a feature on our metal hammock stands, is created with a 360-degree superior weld to produce greater safety for the hammock user. Beginning with 12 gauge steel, we mill the cross bar and inset the elbow before welding for a safer and stronger connection.
Paint Line:

CapeShield®, the latest technology in outdoor finishing for metal products, is now available on Hatteras Hammocks® products. The five stage finishing process culminates with a durable powder coat finish. Powder coating is a color misting of polyester particles that when heated in the final stage, literally plastic coats the metal piece for the highest possible durability to the elements.
